Chapter 755
The floors upstairs were quiet as well, but Matthew could tell something was off. His grudge against the Fuller family ran deep, so they weren't about to let things go without a fight.
As Matthew entered the building, he spotted an old woman mopping near the elevator. He couldn't help but frown.
Members of The Misfortune's Veil came up with all sorts of bizarre ways to take down their targets. Those assassins came in all forms-burly men, old people, and women. Their approaches were bizarre like dropping things from heights, using a dump truck, and running a kite into a power line.
Nothing was off the table. They'd even walk along the streets pretending to be regular pedestrians, then suddenly bump into someone, knocking them right into oncoming traffic.
They'd make their moves when it was least expected, making it impossible to stay prepared.
Matthew instinctively went on high alert and clenched his fists. If the old woman tried anything funny, he'd unleash his Pulverizer Fist.
Spotting the intense look on Matthew's face, the old woman assumed he was upset about the wet floor possibly being slippery. She quickly put the mop aside and took a few steps back.
After the old woman backed away, Matthew finally stepped into the elevator and pressed the button on the 15th floor. The elevator began its slow ascent.
A pang of regret hit Matthew as he thought about taking the elevator. If it reached the 15th floor and suddenly dropped, that would be a nightmare.
Looking at the ceiling of the elevator, Matthew thought about how to get up there fast and find a way out if it suddenly started to fall.
The elevator soon arrived at the 15th floor while Matthew was still wrapped up in his worries. It didn't drop, and he realized just how much The Misfortune's Veil had gotten under his skin.noveldrama
Stepping out of the elevator, Matthew glanced around. At that moment, a woman in a black skirt and red blouse made her way toward him.
Smiling, Matthew asked, "Excuse me. Mind showing me the way to the president's office?"
The president's office? The woman gave Matthew a once-over. "Do you have an appointment?"
Matthew made something up on the spot. "I have an appointment. Mr. Fuller is expecting me in his office."
She responded, "Okay, I'll lead the way."
With the woman guiding him, he entered the president's office. After going inside, he sensed something was off with how empty it was. No one was there.
Matthew was about to grab the woman's arm to ask what was going on when a tablet on the desk chimed. She looked at it and hit the answer button. When the call went through, two faces appeared on the screen-Lyndon and Anson.
She said to Lyndon, "Someone is here to see you, Mr. Lyndon."
Anson smirked. "Let me talk to him."
She flipped the tablet, pointing the camera in Matthew's direction.
Anson's facial features twisted with anger the moment he saw Matthew through
the video call. "You're finally here, Matthew. Get ready to die!"
Matthew's eyes flashed with palpable killing intent as he remarked coldly, "I'm here to end you!"
Anson laughed menacingly. "Should I call you bold or an idiot? Or perhaps you're overconfident. I've laid out a trap, yet you walked right into it alone."
Hearing that, Matthew fired back, "Really? You want to kill me? Bring it on."
Amused, Anson replied, "I'm not stepping foot in that place. It's a death trap. You're as good as dead. Look out the window."
Matthew turned to the window and saw thick smoke with embers flickering. He was instantly shocked. "Y-You actually set the building on fire?"
He had imagined countless ways the Fullers might try to kill him, but this never crossed his mind. They were willing to pay any price to see him dead.
What do you think?
