Chapter 752
Kayden finally revealed Lyndon's location!
A cold glint flashed in Matthew's eyes as he slammed the chair down hard on Kayden's leg. With a crack, the sound of bone breaking echoed.
Kayden clenched his teeth in pain, his face contorting as he let out a squeak like a mouse. His muscles involuntarily tensed up, and the squeal he let out sounded excruciating.
He groaned for a while, then finally caught his breath and protested, "I-I've told you everything, and I've even given you the money in the box. Why are you still hitting me?"
Matthew coldly replied, "Because I feel like it."
Kayden nearly blacked out from the pain. Upon hearing Matthew's words, he didn't dare say anything back and just curled up into a ball, trembling all over.
Matthew picked up the box on the table and headed out. When he got to the hallway, he saw Rachel on a bench and called out to her, "Let's go."
Watching Matthew come out with a box, Rachel's stunning eyes were filled with curiosity and doubt as she stared at his face.
She had seen earlier how difficult Kayden was being. Rachel studied Matthew's expression, hoping to find a clue. Meanwhile, Matthew carried the heavy box and briskly walked toward the elevator.
Rachel hurried to keep up with Matthew before softly asking, "Did you get any leads on the Fuller family's whereabouts?"
He hummed in acknowledgment. As they chatted, they reached the elevator and he gestured with his chin for Rachel to press the down button.
After pressing it, she turned to him and questioned, "Seriously? Did you take care of it with just a cigarette?"
Matthew nodded. "That's right. It only takes one cigarette. I've been telling you, things are simpler between men. Do you believe me now?"
She looked even more bewildered than ever. Forget about just using one cigarette, even if Matthew said he could smooth things over with a whole pack of cigarettes, she still couldn't believe it.
"How on earth did you talk him into it?"
Matthew wasn't keen on mentioning that he had resorted to violence, so he simply smiled and replied, "I just told the truth. Even on my way out, Kayden gave me a box of local specialties."
Just then, the elevator arrived. After Matthew stepped in, another woman entered, sobbing as she pushed a stretcher. Lying on the stretcher was a gaunt old man, and his face was deathly pale. He clenched his teeth with a stubborn attitude.
Rachel entered the elevator. When she was about to say something, she noticed a woman next to her pushing an old man on the stretcher with tears streaming down relentlessly, so she held back.noveldrama
As the elevator slowly went down, the woman pleaded through her tears, "Please listen to me, Dad. I'm begging you. Just agree to the treatment. I'll pay whatever it costs."
The old man suddenly cut in with frustration, "What's the point? I'm 89 years old. I don't have much time left, and they're asking for 500 grand for the treatment. Do you want to ruin your life? You'd shoulder a debt of half a million dollars just to keep me around a bit longer? Even if I die, I won't be able to rest in peace."
The woman sobbed. "I'm willing to take on the debt, Dad. I just want you to get better. You're the only family I have left in this world. If you're gone, what am I supposed to do?"
The old man glared at his daughter. "I'm not going to be with you forever. A few extra years won't change that. Are you planning to give up life when I'm gone? Quit talking nonsense. I'm warning you-if you try to put me in that ward, I'll stop eating. I'll even bite my tongue if I have to. I'm not going through any more treatment."
Tears ran down the woman's cheeks as her shoulders shook. She was sobbing uncontrollably. Watching from the side, Matthew felt like a heavy weight was pressing down on his heart, making him feel awful.
Matthew wished he could help, but the man was too old and was already on his last legs. Traditional medicine was no longer useful to him, and surgery wasn't going to give him much longer to live.
To put it frankly, it was time for the father and daughter to say their goodbyes. But the hospital wanted to profit off his treatment. The father wanted to save money, but the daughter wanted to care for him.
Rachel knitted her brows together, looking like she wanted to say something but bit her tongue each time. Then, she lightly tapped on Matthew's arm and subtly pointed at the old man on the stretcher, as if asking if he could treat the old man.
Matthew shook his head, indicating that nothing could be done. So, Rachel just kept quiet.
What do you think?
