Chapter 750
Having heard what Kayden said, Rachel's blood boiled up with rage. "Silvaris Pharmaceuticals belongs to me, and I can afford for its loss or whatever it has to go through. But what does it have to do with you? What right do you have to smear my factory and file a lawsuit so that I'll lose my factory?"
Kayden sneered in disdain. "What right do I have? You should understand the rules since we're all in the business field.noveldrama
"Unless you wanna lose your pharmaceutical factory for good, you better find an acquaintance to come and talk to me. Or I won't be entertaining you!"
His words only made Rachel even more livid. In the business world, an acquaintance carried another implication, which was gifting.
Clients wouldn't typically accept money from strangers or directly from the vendors—they needed a trusted intermediary who had good connections with both parties to do the job.
Such a precaution was to prevent whistleblowing, and ideally, it would be best if the problem could be solved monetarily. Of course, it had to be an absolute agreement to seal the case.
"I can find us an intermediary to speak to you, and you can tell him the amount you want. But you have to promise me to drop the case!" Rachel said.
Upon hearing that, Kayden derided inwardly-he was only here to earn a few bucks. After all, he had no power over the case, because it was the Fuller family who was pulling the strings.
"That's up to the Gods. This procedure is just like a surgery—as long as you hand over the money, we'll proceed with the surgery. It's all up to fate whether you live or die after the surgery is over," Kayden said.
Rachel couldn't be more furious about it. He wanted the money, yet he couldn't guarantee her a closed case.
"Why should I find an intermediary, then?"
At that, Kayden said coldly, "Let me give you an example. It's the same logic as when a patient comes over to get treated for their illness. If they want to get treated, they would need to pay up, and they would have to pay however much I need them to.
"They have no right to negotiate the amount to be paid, and right now, you're in the same situation as said patient."
At this moment, the head department of the Neurology Inpatient Ward returned, carrying a box. It seemed that the box was quite heavy, because he huffed as he carried it, and his face had flushed red from all the exercise.
After he entered the office, he placed the box on the table and looked and both Matthew and Rachel before talking to Kayden.
"Mr. Garland, I brought up a gift from someone. They wanted to give you some of their hometown specialties-they're red apples, and they're extremely delicious."
Kayden then looked at the department head with much approval and said, "Alright. Thanks! Tell him to consider it done!"
After the department head briefly replied to him, he left the office with ragged breaths.
Seeing that their conversation would lead to nowhere, Rachel decided not to talk to Kayden anymore. "Since that's the case, then there's nothing more to say to you. I want to meet the Fuller family and talk to them directly!"
Then, Kayden snorted and said in amusement, "You still don't understand the situation, do you? Only after you pay up can you meet the Fuller family."
Having heard what he said, Rachel stood up abruptly. She finally saw through the situation and understood that Kayden was merely taking advantage of the situation to extort some money out of her.
He had never planned to do anything for her to begin with.
Matthew had been silently watching all this time, but he finally couldn't take it anymore and stood up, telling Rachel, "You should head out first. I'll have a talk with him."
Rachel knitted her brows together. Kayden wasn't going to have it any other way, and he was aiming only for a sum of their money. Hence, it would be pointless to talk to him.
Now that Matthew had volunteered to help her out, she asked, "Are you sure you can do it?"
Matthew chuckled and said, "We're both men, so it'll be easier for us to communicate."
Rachel was somewhat confused. What did both of them being men have to do with making a seamless conversation? All that Kayden wanted was money, and she could tell that he wasn't just aiming to extort a small sum from them!
Rachel winked at Matthew-a signal for them to step out and have a talk first. Once they were both outside the office, Rachel asked in a small voice, "Tell me what you have in mind."
Matthew then smiled and made a gesture, as if he was smoking, and said, "It'll be settled over a smoke."
What do you think?
