Chapter 1088
Chloe couldn't help but feel the irony wash over her.
Here was a man who was rotten to his very core, and yet the traits he valued most in his children were justice and kindness. If that wasn't the biggest joke the universe could play, she didn't know what was.
Killian was almost dreamy as he spoke. "From now on, Eldridge City will never see the Big Four again. In the next hundred years, in the next thousand, only the Grevenberg family will matter."noveldrama
So that was his endgame.
Chloe narrowed her eyes. "So, you never actually wanted Connor dead?"
"He's my son. He's got Grevenberg blood running through his veins. Of course I'd never let him die."
"So all those years, letting him and Claire fight it out, watching him suffer... you just stood by?"
"It was all just fuel to make him stronger."
Chloe was honestly speechless.
The man standing in front of her looked perfectly normal, almost elegant. But deep down, he was probably even more twisted than Claire.
Grant was silent, standing off to the side.
Chloe couldn't help herself-she had to poke at his sore spot. "You know, you've worked your whole life, but in the end, it looks like you were just setting the table for someone else."
Grant stayed absolutely silent.
Killian didn't seem bothered by her attempts to stir trouble between them. He just said, “Let's open the vault. These treasures have been sleeping for a hundred years-it's time they saw the light."
That's when Chloe noticed it—a stone door, looming in front of them.
Despite being here for a century, the door showed no signs of wear. The carvings all over it were still sharp and detailed, like they'd been chiseled yesterday.
There were four sunken emblems on the door, each one matching the symbols engraved on the tokens of the old families.
Grant was holding the Nagel family's
jade medallion and the Gilbert family's dragon plaque. In Chloe's
hand were the Shaw family's emerald pendant and the Sartori family's emerald pendant.
One by one, they placed the tokens into their slots.
Each piece clicked into place perfectly, fitting into the door as if it were a custom- cut gemstone.
When the last emerald pendant went in, the keys seemed to melt into the stone itself.
Then the ground began to tremble.
Dust billowed everywhere.
And as it finally cleared, the massive stone door slowly parted in the middle, revealing a blinding stream of golden light.
Chloe just stood there, stunned.
The treasure was real—a literal mountain of gold.
Inside, piles upon piles of gold stretched out like a private gold mine, so vast she couldn't even see where it ended.
Killian was the first to step in. Staring at the endless gold, he didn't even look surprised—it was as if he'd always known this was waiting for him.
Chloe followed him in.
The vault was enormous, packed with so much gold and treasure it almost didn't feel real. There were crates of rare jewels, antiques, and artifacts everywhere. Chloe didn't know much about these things, but Grant did. He looked around at the boxes stacked high. "These are ancient burial treasures-every single one is priceless."
Chloe had seen plenty of
wealth-being married to the city's
richest man had its perks. She had her own collection of jewels. But this-Crates upon crates of diamonds, emeralds,
ove
antiques-every piece could have
headlined an auction.
To say each item was worth a fortune didn't even begin to cover it.

Killian burst out laughing, his eyes shining as he looked at the treasure. "A hundred years ago, the Four Families built all of this wealth. Now, finally it all comes back to us the Grevenberg family. This is kama. This is what they deserve.
