When Love Breaks (Josephine)

Josephine opened the chat window, only to see that Nadine had sent an X-ray image.

She stared at the picture for quite some time but was unable to make sense of it. She handed the phone to Ethan, her eyes hinting at him if he understood.

Was Nadine sick?

Did she have a terminal illness?

Was that the reason why Zayn would put in so much effort to help her, care for her, and even betray Josephine?

Ethan took one glance, and his expression shifted. A flicker of anger flashed across his eyes.

Before he could say a word, Nadine's voice rang out from the phone.

"Oh my, don't tell me you don't know what that is? Well, it's not a surprise. You were married to Zayn for three years, but you couldn't give him a child. How could you recognize it?

"I guess I'm just lucky to hit the jackpot after one passionate night with Zayn. Tell me, doesn't this prove that fate is on my side?"

Josephine froze on the spot as if she was struck by lightning.

Nadine was actually pregnant.

"Josephine, why aren't you saying anything? Weren't you acting all high and mighty? Didn't you say you'd destroy me, that you'd make sure I couldn't survive in this industry?

"Didn't you say I'd never set foot in the Forbes family? Let me tell you, I don't care about that, because I don't need to. My son will help me claim everything that's rightfully mine!"

Josephine couldn't process Nadine's words anymore. She was in disbelief.

Zayn had sworn that nothing had happened between him and Nadine, aside from the one time they kissed, which Josephine witnessed herself.

It was all a lie.

And yet, she'd believed him.

Even though she had spent the day before reminding herself not to trust Zayn, that scumbag.

However, she knew that she still did, deep down.

That was why she'd shared a meal with him at the same table and why she had been kinder to him.

She was such an idiot.

Suddenly, Ethan grabbed Josephine's phone and ended the call.

Josephine lifted her head slowly, wanting to say something, but no words came

out. All she could feel was that she was spiraling.

"I'm so embarrassed."

"Shh, don't say that. I understand."

Ethan patted her back gently, then pulled her into his arms.

"She's doing you a favor by helping you see the truth. She's helping you clear away the bad people in your life. Don't be mad. She's not worth it.

Josephine leaned against his chest and shook her head. "I'm not mad. 1 just feel stupid and pathetic. I've tried so hard to keep this marriage together for three years.

"In the end, all I got was heartbreak and betrayal. My efforts were nothing but a joke."

"No, that's not true."

Ethan could feel his heart being twisted.

At that moment, a thought appeared

in his head. If it meant that she could be happy, he was willing to trad@everything he had, just to make Zayn loyal to her.

"Your efforts weren't a joke. You should measure them by their actions. As long as

you stayed true to yourself, that's enough."

"But I didn't stay true to myself."
