Leander was mentally prepared. Even if Tessa turned him down, he wouldn't be discouraged. He was ready for a long pitch to convince Tessa.

Having everything planned out in his head, he was surprised that she'd say yes so quickly.

Leander excitedly came up to Tessa and shook her hand. "Thank you so much. I didn't expect Ms. Sanders to be so supportive. You can count on me to give it my all and make sure everything goes smoothly."

Tessa was totally wrapped up in the idea of beating Matthew up with the exoskeleton. She didn't pay much attention to what Leander said and merely said, "Alright. Let's make this happen as soon as possible. When can we start?"

Was she so eager to start now? Leander chuckled and replied, "We still have a few minor issues to sort out.

"Besides that, we need to collect your brainwave data and your neuro sensitivity levels. There's a bunch of data to gather. If there's an error, a slight miscalculation can throw everything off."

Tessa didn't quite get it. "Are you saying this is risky?"

Leander flashed a diffident smile. "The risk isn't as serious as you think. Everything you do comes with some level of risk. Even drinking water can choke you. Since everything has its risks, you shouldn't worry about it.

"Our company is a bit tight on funds right now, so we can't pay you, but we can buy you insurance to ease your mind."

Getting paid, huh? Tessa didn't think getting paid was necessary. She was already grateful for gaining the strength equivalent to 1,000 pounds. Why would she need any payment?

But she was currently strapped for cash. Otherwise, she'd be happy to pay for this high-tech service.

"Let's head over to your company now. I can't wait to get things started."

Sporting a friendly smile, Leander led the way. "Let's go. My car is parked right there."

As Leander spoke, he pulled out his phone and sent a message to a chat group. "I've found a female volunteer. We're done with finding volunteers now. Everyone should head back to the company."

Tessa followed closely behind Leander, feeling a surge of resolve in her heart. "Just you wait, Matthew. When I come back, I'm going to smack you and make you cry."

A car pulled over at the entrance of a kindergarten. As Matthew got out of the car, he noticed a bunch of old people were already hanging out at the entrance, chatting away in pairs or small groups.

There were hardly any young people picking up kids-less than ten in total.

Seeing that he didn't know anyone here, Matthew leaned against a tree and waited by himself.

Matthew had been swamped lately, so he hadn't had time to pick up Lorraine. He felt a pang of guilt about it.noveldrama

Looking at the cotton candy in his hand, he broke into a smile. Lorraine would definitely be thrilled to see this.

Finally, it was dismissal time at the kindergarten. The younger students started walking out. Among the older students, Lorraine stood on her tiptoes, glancing over at the gate from time to time.

The gate was crowded with parents. She scanned the crowd with her dark eyes but ended up feeling let down. She lowered her gaze to her toes.

Braylen Hostetler, a chubby student, stood beside Lorraine and smugly remarked, "My dad came today. Your dad didn't show up again, right? With your parents divorced, your dad is probably hanging out with your stepmom and doesn't want you anymore."

Lorraine twitched her mouth, fighting back the urge to cry. She put up a tough front and pressed her lips together.

"Dad wouldn't do that. He's probably just busy with work today. I'm grown up now, so I don't need him to pick me up."

Braylen teased, "Your dad has abandoned you. You don't have a mom either, and she doesn't want you as well. How sad."

Lorraine's eyes were misty. She looked like she was about to cry, so she kept her head down and stayed quiet.
