Chapter 1584
When Mirabella saw the call from the family head, she quickly shifted her gaze and casually remarked, "Your phone's ringing." The message was clear: Cassie should take it.
Cassie got the hint, and his face fell immediately. He'd always been a bit wary of the family head. They were much tougher on him than on his sister, and since he wasn't as sharp as she was, he'd been on the receiving end of countless scoldings over the years. He couldn't fathom why they were calling him out of the
blue now.
Eventually, Cassie set down his fork, picked up his phone, and stood up. He gave Nick a nod before stepping out, answering the call with, "Nellie, you wanted to talk to me..."
As Cassie's voice faded away, Nick's expression wavered momentarily. It took him a bit to pull himself together, hiding the bitter smile that crept into his eyes. He was really hung up on something, letting a familiar-sounding name unsettle him like that. Nellie had been gone a long time.
Mirabella caught the change in Nick's demeanor and, after a moment's thought, set her fork down too. Casually, she asked, "Nick, are you planning to stay at the medical school for good?"
Nick looked up, pondered for a moment, and said, "That's the plan for now."
"Still not found what you're searching for?" Mirabella inquired, keeping it light. Nick's fingers paused slightly. He knew Mirabella was sharp. Even though she hadn't asked about the previous incident, it didn't mean she hadn't figured out the underlying reason.
"No, I haven't," he replied.
The medical school had scant information about the experimental subjects. To be precise, all the past records were locked down tight, making them nearly impossible to access now.
Mirabella thought back to the file she'd seen on Nick's computer about Nellie and asked, "Is it research data you're after, or something else?"
"Mostly research data," Nick nodded.
Mirabella took a sip of coffee and said, "If you need any help, Nick, just holler."
Nick just smiled, "Will do."
Before long, Cassie came back from his call, looking way more at ease than when he'd left.
Mirabella raised an eyebrow, "What was that about?"noveldrama
Cassie seemed a bit out of it, and after a moment, he replied, "Not much, just some casual check-ins."
If it had been a scolding, he would'ye found it normal, but this sudden shift in attitude left Cassie feeling al
sorts of uneasy. Was he secretly a
સ
glutton for punishment?
Cassie scratched his nose and sat back down. Seeing this, Mirabella didn't dig
any deeper and simply said, "Make sure to call her now and then."
Cassie nodded, "Got it."

The next morning, Mirabella headed to the airport.
"Stay safe over there. If you need anything, reach out to Grady. I've given him your flight details, and he'll be there to pick you up when you land," Nick instructed, standing at the security checkpoint with a tone that was a bit more serious than usual.
Mirabella tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear and nodded, "Alright, I hear
you. You should head back, Nick."
Not far off, Blaze and the others were already approaching to join them.
"Okay," Nick replied. He didn't linger, but as he turned to leave, he glanced around the airport terminal one more time before turning back to his sister and asking, "Why didn@James come to see you off today?
