The Day Our Promise Breaks

Chapter 247

She collapsed into Charles' arms, tears of grief and frustration spilling down her cheeks. "Charles, it hurts so much. Is my face ruined? Will you turn your back on me and leave me?"

"I'll get you the finest doctor to make sure no scars remain," Charles replied, sidestepping her question about leaving her.

Dahlia bit her lip, tears flowing freely. "If it wasn't for Sandy being so little and needing her mom, I'd give my life for Charlie..."

"Cough—" Charles was overwhelmed and began to cough. His face lost all color.

Dahlia noticed his condition and quickly called for a doctor. Charles was already injured, having been hit by Evelyn with a thermos and tussling with a bunch of bodyguards. Even though they didn't dare seriously harm him, the scuffle had worsened his injuries. Charles had been pushing himself too hard, and now his vision dimmed, and he swayed.

"Mr. Charles!" Dr. Nelson rushed to support him as he fainted.

Dahlia sat by his bedside, her eyes calculating. Earlier, at the cemetery, it was clear Rosa had found out that she was behind Charlie's death. Even without solid proof, Rosa believed Evelyn's word over hers. As Dahlia tumbled down the cemetery hill, the look in Rosa's eyes said she wouldn't let Dahlia off easily. This couldn't stand.

Back at the hospital, Rosa had a check-up. The doctor advised her to take it easy and avoid stress. Rosa was feeling guilty and tried to comfort Evelyn. "Eve, don't worry. I won't let anything happen to myself. I've got your back, right? Even if we can't make Dahlia pay for Charlie, I won't let her have a good life."

After some food and a chat, Rosa, feeling weary, was lulled to sleep. Once she dozed off, Evelyn departed the hospital Shortly after, a nurse entered to change Rosa's IV drip.

The caretaker thought the nurse's behavior was odd-interns or rookies wouldn't usually be on this floor. But when she saw Rosa awake and seemingly fine, she brushed off her concerns. Rosa, however, didn't go back to sleep. She sat up,

cemetery and Dahlia's brazenness, fueled by Charles' blind trust. She had initially thought to let things slide, but after Charlie's death, she couldn't allow Dahlia to remain by Charles' side and cause more chaos. Dahlia had to go.

Rosa found a reason to send Marian away and signaled for her clothes. "Rosa, the doctor said you need rest," the caretaker protested, but Rosa's stern look silenced her.

Rosa heard Charles was unconscious, and Dahlia was home alone, so she headed straight for Greenrose with her bodyguards. Upon arrival, Rosa made no effort to conceal her presence-she was there to deal with Dahlia. She planned for Dahlia to confess afterward. Rosa would use her life to avenge Charlie and get rid of Dahlia's influence over Charles.

As Rosa stormed into Greenrose, Dahlia was in the kitchen, preparing a meal for Charles. Rosa commanded, "Take her away." Her bodyguards immediately dragged Dahlia out.

"What are you doing? Let me go! Charles won't let you get away with this!" Dahlia screamed, struggling.

The housekeeper, frightened, tried to call the police, but a bodyguard snatched her phone, eyeing her to ensure she didn't interfere. Sandy ran up, tugging at the bodyguard "Bad guy, let go of my mom!" The bodyguard didn't touch Sandy. He just gently pulled her away, pushing her onto the sofa. Dahlia was then dragged out like a rag doll and shoved into a car.

Over at Maple Garden, Evelyn, always a light sleeper, woke as her phone rang. She was in the dark and opened her eyes, having long since conquered her fear of the dark after being locked in the basement. She grabbed her phone, and upon seeing Tony's name, her heart skipped. Sitting up quickly, she answered, "Tony..." "Miss Evelyn, Rosa... has passed away!"
