Shrouded Affections Winning Back My CEO Wife

Chapter 844

Chapter 844:

Eileen, reclining under a hospital blanket that hid signs of injury, didn’t let Julio see her obvious wounds. He assumed that Eileen’s leg under the blanket was injured.

“Actually, it’s my hand that’s scalded,” Eileen replied.

Julio was confused. He glanced over at Bryan, who was preoccupied with Gabriela, and realized what was happening. He nodded.

“Ah, I see. Not just the hand, then. Seems Mr. Dawson’s heart is also under the weather. A hospital stay might be what you need.”

His voice carried a teasing undertone that made Eileen’s smile falter.

Dalores, standing by the window, shifted uneasily. Choosing to stay silent with her head lowered, Julio also fell silent, and the atmosphere grew awkward.

Unable to stand the tension any longer, Dalores wanted to leave. She said, “I should head back now, Eileen. Rest up and let me know when you’re discharged.”

“You really didn’t have to come, but thank you for making the effort,” Eileen replied, her tone reflecting a mix of appreciation and embarrassment over the fuss Bryan had made about her condition.

Dalores smiled at her, grabbed her bag, and headed for the door. As she reached for the handle, she heard Julio say, “Seems like someone’s worry has you shackled to this hospital bed. But you’re alright, so I guess it’s time for me to leave.”

Dalores quickened her steps, descending the stairs.

Eileen watched Julio leave the room, the chill from the partly open window bringing a welcome freshness that broke the sterile smell of the hospital. She couldn’t hold back her questions any longer. “Why am I still here, really? When can I leave the hospital?”

Bryan’s expression was inscrutable as he answered, “Conroy has already called me several times, asking me to go back. Once he contacts you, you will be able to leave soon.”

Frustrated and confused, Eileen lay back on the bed, her gaze lost in the sky’s vast expanse reflected in the window.

Dalores took the elevator to the first floor, and as soon as she stepped out, she saw Julio standing just outside, apparently having sprinted down the stairs from Eileen’s floor. Frowning, Dalores avoided eye contact and moved past him, but Julio kept pace with her.

“Help me end things with Mabel. Then, I’ll put the past behind us,” he said.

“I don’t believe you,” Dalores responded, without stopping. “You’ve used up all my trust. Don’t come to me again. Your decisions, your divorce—they’re yours to handle. If you’re ready to deal with the consequences of pursuing a married woman, then proceed. I don’t care.”

As they conversed, they reached the bustling hospital hall. Suddenly, the emergency elevator door burst open, and a team of nurses, urgently pushing a gurney and shouting for space, rushed out.

Dalores stopped short, startled. Before she could step aside, she felt a firm grip encircle her waist, pulling her swiftly into a protective embrace. Her hand instinctively clutched Julio’s sleeve as they narrowly avoided the medical team. As the chaos subsided, she was still in a daze.noveldrama

“Could you try using your brain for once? You almost bumped into the team,” Julio said, his voice tinged with his usual cold detachment.

It was then that Dalores realized just how firmly Julio was holding her, and that their sudden closeness had attracted the stares of bystanders. Frowning, she pushed against his chest to free herself, but he didn’t budge.
