Chapter 35
I said coldly, "Is it the truth simply because she claimed it to be? If she wants to accuse me of taking bribes and preying on patients, then she should at least have concrete evidence.
"Does she have a bank transfer record, a video of me accepting a gift, or a specific date involving her daughter, along with surveillance footage that clearly shows I committed a crime?
"If it were my family in this situation, I'd go to the police immediately instead of spreading it around and causing more trauma to the child."
I would never admit to something I hadn't done.
"She's a single mother. How could she compare to someone like you, with influence and power on your side? She had no choice but to create a public scene just to seek justice. Is that so wrong?" Samuel sneered at me.
There was no evidence, but when enough people repeated a lie, it began to sound like the truth. Even if just to protect the hospital's reputation, Dr. Crowell wouldn't keep me around.noveldrama
"Is that so? If I really had that much influence, would you have been allowed to take my place?" I countered. "At the end of the day, you don't have a shred of proof. I won't acknowledge a word you say."
"You gave Kourtney Gomez medicine, didn't you?" Samuel, sensing that the situation might be slipping out of his control, rushed to accuse me.
"That's right. But it was after she was discharged." I nodded, speaking before Samuel could smear me. "Doctors are indeed supposed to maintain boundaries with patients, but those who've already been discharged no longer fall under that rule."
"She was still your patient!" Samuel hadn't expected that answer. His eyes shifted. "And who's to say you only started seeing her after she left the hospital? Maybe it's like that other girl-maybe you'd already done something to her before that!" "You used to work at NewtonCare Hospital. During the counterfeit drug scandal there, I remember you were involved, too. How much did you make off it? 50 or 100 grand? Are you still selling counterfeit meds now that you're here?"
My words made the veins in Samuel's forehead bulge. "What are you talking about? That's all in the past!"
"I'm just following your logic. If you sold counterfeit meds once, then you're a counterfeit meds dealer for life." I looked at him with a smile. "What? Did I say something wrong?"
Neither Dr. Crowell nor Samuel could outtalk me. They had no real evidence. The rumors of me being spread all over the hospital were nothing but baseless slander. It wasn't nearly enough to convict me of anything.
Dr. Crowell stared at me. "Even if these are just rumors and you didn't do something like that, why would anyone say you did? Why is it only your patient making a scene? No other doctor has ever caused something like this!"
He slammed his hand down on the table with a loud crack. "It takes two to tango. Regardless of what's true or not, this whole mess has thrown the hospital into chaos. Patients don't trust you anymore, and the administration's under pressure. Frankly, I don't think we can keep you on."
"You're right. What they said about me is fake," I said calmly, "but what I said isn't."
I reached into my bag, pulled out a stack of photos, and let them scatter into the air.
"Dr. Crowell, you really did cheat with your secretary, and you really did sleep with three of the hospital's female doctors. You know that as well as I do."
I gave him a polite smile. "So, how about you stop dragging your personal mess into the workplace? It's starting to make everyone a little uncomfortable."
The photos fluttered down like confetti. A few doctors reached out to catch some, and the moment they saw them, their expressions changed.
The images clearly showed Dr. Crowell in intimate situations with Elise and the three female doctors.
Just then, the conference room door was kicked open.
What do you think?
