Chapter 28
Xavier leaned toward Lily, his presence making the air around her feel electric. "Come home with me?" he asked, his breathing heavy with desire.
Despite being enveloped by his intense masculine energy, Lily's mind remained crystal clear. She was calculating whether she could find another way to get the hospital records if she refused Xavier, but she knew there was none.noveldrama
The tension in the car shifted from confrontational to passionate as she remained still allowing Xavier's lips to find hers. The first late autumn rain arrived unexpectedly, with the car's headlights illuminating the empty street ahead while raindrops trickled down the windows. The sound of rain mingled with Xavier's husky breathing as he grabbed her resistant hand from his chest. After days of abstinence, he could barely control himself, wanting to take her right there.
He did not seem to care about her hesitation or wait for any agreement. Instead, his hands lifted her, pulling her fully onto his lap, determined to close the gap.
Lily did not resist, knowing she could not afford the consequences of refusal, but she did not agree either. As long as she did not verbally accept his terms, she could still ask for divorce once Hayden's situation was resolved.
Xavier's control was slipping as he pulled her closer, clearly intent on not holding back. She knew he was drawn to her body, even if that was all it was for him. His proper upbringing prevented him from going too far in public, so he drove them home instead.
The rain continued streaming down the windows, reflecting the growing fire in his eyes. His intensity was so overwhelming that he completely missed the sadness flickering in her eyes.
Lily thought to herself that after so many times together, what difference would a few more make? But when the moment came, she discovered the emotional disconnect was impossible to ignore.
Before, when he kissed her, she had always imagined he did it with love, believing they were truly in love. Now, even as he lost himself in her she could not surrender herself to their passion.
This intimacy, this continued marriage, was bought with Xavier's power-it was nothing but a transaction. While the rain fell softly outside, Lily forced herself to respond to his advances. Xavier was satisfied, so much so that he lost control, knowing he was being excessive but unable to stop himself. He considered it punishment for her recent defiance-punishment she seemed to enjoy, given her flushed cheeks and dazed expression.
Later that night, as the rain began to ease, Lily lay there wearing only his dress shirt, her long,
pale legs exposed. Seeing her vulnerability rekindled Xavier's desire, and they continued until
dawn.
Lily drifted in and out of consciousness until she heard Xavier take a phone call, his voice hoarse from their night together but urgent. "Sarah, stay safe and hide until I get there!"
Xavier got out of bed and went to the closet to change. Within two minutes, he emerged wearing black dress pants and a white shirt.
As he passed the bed, Lily pushed through her exhaustion to grab his sleeve. "Xavier, about Hayden's case..."
