Chapter 1213
Chapter 1213:
Waylon felt a warmth spread through his chest.
“Don’t worry. I slept well yesterday. But I do have something going on. I’ll be the first to tell you when it’s done.”
“Okay then, I’ll wait for your good news.”
After hanging up, Waylon knew Madisyn had misunderstood, but he didn’t feel the need to explain.
There were countless conflicts between him and Evie, like a series of hurdles stacked one after another. But Waylon held onto the belief that if he persevered, he’d eventually clear them all.
He glanced at the time; it was time to bring Evie her breakfast. With swift movements, he washed up, changed his clothes, and drove off. The weather was gray and dreary, and it took Waylon longer than usual to pick up the breakfast and make his way over.
When he parked in front of Evie’s house, a cold shiver ran down his spine. He saw a scene that made his heart clench.
A man he didn’t recognize was walking out of the house with Evie. She was letting him hold her hand, and they looked too comfortable, too close.
It was early in the morning, and the man was leaving Evie’s house. The implications were painfully clear.
Waylon felt a crushing weight on his chest, as though his heart was being squeezed from the inside. It was hard to breathe.
Maybe there was some misunderstanding.
A flicker of hope still glimmered in Waylon’s eyes. He clenched his fists, then loosened them, finally taking a step forward.
At the entrance, Evie turned to Laurinda, a trace of guilt on her expression.
“He usually shows up around this time. I didn’t expect him to be late today. I’m sorry you couldn’t go home last night.”
Laurinda didn’t seem bothered at all and offered her analysis.

“Maybe your attitude yesterday threw him off. As for me, don’t feel bad about it. Your bed was really soft.”
Waylon, who had just arrived, overheard the last part. In that instant, all illusions of the situation fell away, and reality hit him like a slap in the face.
After Evie finished speaking with Laurinda, she turned around and her eyes locked with Waylon’s. Both of them froze in place. When had Waylon arrived? Had he heard everything?
Evie panicked, her face flashing with anxiety. Laurinda reacted more quickly. As long as her gender wasn’t revealed, everything could still be salvaged.
Without missing a beat, Laurinda wrapped her arm around Evie’s waist and raised an eyebrow, asking in a teasing tone, “Honey, who’s this?”noveldrama
Waylon’s expression darkened at the endearment Laurinda used for Evie.
Evie, catching the cue, quickly regained her composure.
“He’s my friend.”
She turned to Waylon and repeated the rehearsed lines.
“Waylon, I said what I needed to say to you yesterday. Is there anything else you need from me today? If not, we should go.”
